In accordance with Section 23 of the Taxi and Luxury Hire Car Industries Act
2008, the Transport Commission is required to make additional owner-operator
taxi licences available in all Tasmanian taxi areas. The number of licences
offered in each taxi area is equivalent to 5% of the total number of perpetual
taxi licences and owner-operator taxi licences currently on issue in the
relevant taxi area.
In accordance with Section 23(3) of the Act, the Transport Commission must not
accept a tender that is less than the Reserve Price for a licence in any
particular taxi area. These licences must be operated by the holder of the
licence (who must be a natural person) and cannot be leased or assigned. They
may be cancelled or suspended in prescribed circumstances without compensation.
No tender is necessarily accepted and late tenders will not be considered.
Prospective tenderers who are not currently accredited to operate a taxi service in Tasmania should contact the officer nominated in this notice to obtain additional information about operator accreditation before submitting a tender. Note that operator accreditation is not the same as authorisation to drive a taxi.
