In accordance with Section 23 of the the Taxi and Luxury Hire Car Industries
Act 2008, the Transport Commission is required to make additional
owner-operator taxi licences available in all Tasmanian taxi areas. The number
of licences offered in each taxi area is equivalent to 5% of the total number
of perpetual taxi licences and owner-operator taxi licences currently on issue
in the relevant taxi area. The licences are offered for sale by tender. In
accordance with Section 23(3) of the Act, the Transport Commission must not
accept a tender that is less than the Reserve Price for a licence in any
particular taxi area. These licences must be operated by the holder of licence
and cannot be leased or assigned. They may be cancelled or suspended in
prescribed circumstances.
