The primary reason why the exact value of the extension of these contracts has been noted as "approximate" is that these contracts are for both base services and minor works. While the base services amounts are fixed and do not change (with the exception of CPI increases), the minor works component is variable and depends on the exact nature of the work that is ordered up. Examples of areas where minor works may be required include:
(a) Steelwork repairs;
(b) Concrete repairs;
(c) Mechanical repairs;
(d) Electrical repairs; and
(e) Rectifying faults under the direction of the Superintendent.
The extent of minor works that will be required under this contract during the three-month extension period is not known and as such, an exact value is not able to be determined.
In addition, there may be a need for the Department to upgrade some pieces of Principal-owned site-specific safety equipment prior to the end of the extended term of these contracts. The exact details (including value) of these items are not yet known.
