DPIPWE is seeking proposals from commercial operators interested in extracting copper and other metals from the acid mine drainage at Mt Lyell. The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to negotiate a contract with the Crown for the rights to the acid mine drainage for an agreed set period.

The purpose of the Request for Proposal is to open up the option of extracting copper, and potentially other metals, from the acid mine drainage to commercial ventures, with the benefit of reducing the levels of metals entering the environment.

  • Applicants should also be familiar with the Mt Lyell site, and are invited to attend a briefing on the site at 11 am on 9th October 2013. All interested parties must register prior to the site briefing with the contact person on 6233 6518.
