Responsible Conduct of Gaming

Options

Responsible Conduct of Gaming course involves a thorough knowledge of the Tasmanian Gaming Exclusion Scheme. Information regarding the scheme and the online database is available here.

It is a condition of every special employee licence that the individual must undertake a Responsible Conduct of Gaming course approved by the Tasmanian Gaming Commission within three months of being licensed.

The Commission has approved the Australian Hotels Association and the Drysdale Institute of TAFE Tasmania as recognised providers of the course in Tasmania. The Australian Hotels Association conducts training courses on a regular basis throughout the State. The Drysdale Institute of TAFE Tasmania offers the option of undertaking training as a single module or as a component of its hospitality training certificates.

Changes to the Responsible Conduct of Gaming course

From 1 July 2010, the Tasmanian Gaming Commission will only recognize courses that deliver the national competency SITHGAM006A - Provide Responsible Gambling Services as prerequisite training for special employee licences.

The effective date of 1 July 2010 will allow time for the Commission and the Tasmanian Qualifications Authority to conduct a moderation day for all interested Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and for all interested RTOs to prepare to deliver the new course. The Commission encourages all interested RTOs to become involved in the moderation day and to offer the new course. Further information on the moderation day will be posted shortly.

The Commission has also determined that for the time being it will continue to recognise the qualifications of special employees who have completed the current AHA or Tasmanian Skills Institute course. The Commission is proposing that all special employees be retrained on the new course once their existing RCG qualification (received by way of the current AHA or Tasmanian Skills Institute course) is more than five years old, with these special employees having 12 months to upgrade to the SITHGAM006A course. The table below outlines the Commission’s proposal.
